School Closing Policies: Inclement Weather / Emergencies Inclement Weather In case of inclement weather, Eagle Cove School (formerly GICS) follows the Anne Arundel County Public School's closing policy for the first two days of a weather emergency. Closing or delayed opening announcements are made on WBAL TV, Channel 11, posted on the school's website (www.gics.org), and broadcast through the Parent Reach system. On the third and subsequent days of any storm, the Head makes closing decisions on a day-by-day basis. At that point, there will be an individual announcement if school is to be closed; if you do not hear ECS specifically mentioned, we will be open. ECS does not close because of heat, and we do not cancel morning Pre-K in the case of a delayed opening, In the unlikely event that ECS will be closed or dismissed early, Parent Reach and the school website will be used. After School Care will not meet if ECS is closed early for weather, unless you are notified to the contrary. Crisis Management and Emergency Communications In an emergency of any kind, the Head or her appointee is the spokesperson for the School and the only spokesperson. This includes disseminating information within the School, including the presenting of information to students, as well as outside the School, including any contact with the media. Any questions in this regard should be brought promptly to the Head. The handling of emergency situations is treated more fully in the School's Crisis Management Plan. Interested parents are welcome to review a copy in the School Office.
