Curriculum Overview
Pre-Kindergarten
Students participate in
movement exploration, rhythmic expression and activities that introduce
locomotor and non-locomotor skills. Music is used for rhythm with
activities. We discuss sportsmanship, taking turns, sharing, cooperation,
safety, and an introduction to the muscles of their body.
Kindergarten
Students participate in
movement exploration, group organization patterns and rhythm activities.
The fundamental skills of throwing, catching, dribbling and bouncing balls are
introduced. Sportsmanship, cooperation and safety are emphasized.
Locomotor and non-locomotor skills are reviewed and practiced through the use of
varied activities. The introduction of their muscles in their body is
expanded.

1st Grade
The First Grade
physical education program expands on the skills introduced to the
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten student. Locomotor and non-locomotor
skills are reviewed and practiced through the use of varied activities.
The fundamental skills of throwing, catching, dribbling, and bouncing balls are
introduced. Students participate in movement exploration, group
organization patterns, and rhythm activities. Sportsmanship, cooperation,

movement, rhythmic expression and group organization patterns. The
fundamental skills of throwing, catching, dribbling, jumping and bouncing balls
are reintroduced and practiced. Playground games, sportsmanship,
cooperation and safety are emphasized. We continue to practice team games
(skills, strategy and rules). Students are introduced to the Physical
Fitness Assessment Program. They also begin to understand why their
muscles work in their bodies.
3rd Grade
The Third grade

movement exploration, body mechanics, and rhythmical routines. Teaching
methods vary depending on the activities of the period. The fundamental
skills of throwing, catching, dribbling, jumping and bouncing balls are
reintroduced and practiced. Playground games, sportsmanship, cooperation
and safety are emphasized. We continue team games (skills, strategy and

Students are introduced to specific, more detailed muscles.
4th Grade
The Fourth Grade
physical education program is designed to introduce the principles of exercise:
(1) increase the heart’s efficiency; (2) strengthen bones ligaments, and
tendons, (3) increase flexibility. Students will understand that skilled
movement enhances skilled performance. Students are encouraged to put
their best efforts through vigorous physical exercise, sports, and games.
Physical fitness assessments are done in the fall of each year. Students
may receive an introduction to paddling and canoeing. Sportsmanship,
cooperation, and safety are reviewed and enforced.
5th Grade
Students participate
in activities that reinforce skilled movement and enhance skillful performance.
They give their best efforts through vigorous physical exercise, sports, games
and dance. The Physical Assessment is administered in the fall. We
concentrate on promoting lifetime health-related fitness. Students may
participate in classroom and field lessons on paddling and canoeing skills.
The physical fitness unit is expanded. Sportsmanship, cooperation, and
