Did you know that November is National Novel Writing Month?

NaNoWriMo - It's just wonderful to say, isn't it!  National Novel Writing Month!  The time of year when adult participants are challenged to write novels!  50,000 words -- no starting before 12:01 am November 1st -- no writing after 11:59 pm November 30th.

50,000 Words!  That's a Lot!  What about Young Writers? Well, they have it a little easier!  :-)  The time limits still apply, but...

Writers under the age of 13 are allowed to set their own goals.  It's quantity that is stressed this month, not necessarily quality.  We want to let the creative juices flow!

And Our 5th Graders have agreed to take on this Awesome Challenge and will be busy typing away on their laptops throughout the month of November!

Here it is November and they are ready to WRITE!  They have their NaNoWriMo workbooks, they have their laptops, they have some dum-dum lollipops to give them sustenance as their creative juices flow!

And so, we invite you to meet the Fifth Graders of GICS and present you with...

Throughout November, the Fifth Graders will exchange ideas, pose dares to one another, and offer support, empathy, and laughter.  They will definitely be writing during their scheduled library times each week, and hopefully they will be seen planning, jotting down notes, and typing away at myriad other times throughout the month.

Stay tuned as we update this site weekly with personal reflections about the experience, first lines (and maybe first paragraphs!) of their works in progress and updated word counts.

Wish us luck!
